Accrington Academy
We are an 11-18 school with around 1,161 pupils on roll and 208 staff and we include a 6th-form. Our FSM figure is 38%, EAL is 7%, SEND is 12% and disadvantaged is 34%. We have 38% of our children who identify as a non-white British background. Our curriculum teaches a broad and balanced range of subjects in an engaging, inspiring and motivating way. We pay particular attention to the core skills of English, Mathematics, Science and ICT but are keen to ensure that students develop the essential skills and qualifications they need to reach their full potential. This means accelerating the more able students and giving extra support to those who need it. The Academy places particular emphasis on the development of literacy skills. Reading is one of the ways that all students can improve their own level of success: increasing their vocabulary, improve their writing skills, learning new ideas and engaging in creative thinking and reflection. At Accrington Academy our aim is to bring out ‘The Best in Everyone’ – students, staff, parents and the local community. We have developed a culture of ‘hard work’ and ‘dedication’ from our students and staff alike, where high expectations and a desire for success are standard and a place where everyone is proud to belong. We believe that everyone can be outstanding and we seek to draw out the full potential in everyone. We encourage each and every student to be ambitious; we seek to bring out ‘the best in everyone’. We are dedicated to inspiring, engaging and rewarding our students to become a generation of stars. We are a forward-thinking school that embraces the very latest technologies and strives to provide our students with state-of-the-art facilities and innovative teaching balanced with the highest expectations for student’s behaviour and appearance. Excellence lies at the heart of Academy life and everything we strive to achieve. This is based on our key values of ambition, determination, respect, enthusiasm, confidence and creativity. Through enriched learning experiences, it is our intention that students exhibit these values within school and their wider community. Actively engaging with the latest technology is an integral part of students’ lives outside of school. Accrington Academy allows students to develop their talents outside of the classroom also, with numerous extracurricular activities and extended learning opportunities taking place in sports, Science, Mathematics, Languages, art and leadership to name just a few. We strongly believe that taking part in this project will increase this enrichment and help each and every one of our young learners to reach their goals, particularly in Mathematics, Science and Languages. The project co-ordinator is Will Aitken.
